Student's in Mrs. Chacon's second grade class and Mrs. Buscho's gifted and talented class were inspired by the children's book Alex's Lemonade Stand.  When Alexandra (Alex) was just four years old, she held her first childhood cancer fundraiser in her front yard and raised over $2,000.  By the time of her death in 2004, Alex raised $1 million and inspired a legacy of hope and cures for childhood cancer.  As part of the Great Lemonade War, Mrs. Chacon's and Mrs. Buscho's students created a lemonade stand in the lobby of Twombly Elementary School.  In addition, they had an on-line link where donations were also made.   As of Friday, April 6th, they had raised approximately $783 toward childhood cancer research.  These students are learning first hand how important it is to give back and care for those who are less fortunate.  At Twombly, we like to call this "real life learning."
